Glad We're Here

My song "Glad We're Here" (written between July and August 2023) is inspired by Charlie Mackesy's wonderful "The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse". Its title, which appears only once at the very end of the song, is the Mole's coded way of saying "I love you".

Lyrics

Glad We’re Here

In the cool of the morning just before the dawn breaks
Endless thoughts lie brewing in your mind
Some are sad, some are tragic, some will leave you in tears
But those tears fall for a reason
And they’re not guaranteed to be there till the end of time

When it seems that your journey’s lost its way and unclear
And the storm clouds are looming in the sky
Well that’s the time to remember everyone you hold dear
Hold them close while you can ‘cos
There’s no guarantee you’ll be there till the end of time

Oh I… know the only reason why...
People find it hard to cry...
When they’re lost inside

Hold them close while you can ‘cos
There’s no guarantee you’ll be there till the end of time

But remember. We all need to remember
There’s a world outside just waiting for a favour
And the bravest thing to do there
Is to open up your doors and let it in.

Oh I… know the only reason why...
People find it hard to cry...
When they’re lost inside

Because love lies quietly behind all things
Well it won’t shout ‘cos it don’t need to raise its voice
For its strength is in silence and its truth is so clear
But if it’s too hard to name it
Then you only need to say that you are glad we’re here.
