The opening lines of the first verse were floating around in my mind for a week or two before the rest of the song arrived. A friend said that James Taylor would have been proud to have written this which I took as a huge compliment as JT is one of my musical idols and touchstones. (Written and recorded October – November 2018)
Lyrics
One little raindrop falling in the sea
Won’t make a lot of difference to you or to me
But I wonder what would happen if instead of just one drop
Half a million other raindrops fell and never ever stopped
One little pebble rolling down a hill
Will never make a difference to those who lack the will
But I wonder what would happen if a million other stones
All decide to fall together ‘stead of falling on their own.
Raindrops and stones don’t have power on their own
But when they act together
No matter what the weather or your view
Well you’d be hard pressed to know what they can do
One little voice in a sea of discontent
Won’t make a lot of difference to those in parliament
But I wonder what would happen if a million voices shout
Would it cure all the deafness that is currently about
Voices I’ve known don’t have power on their own
But when they shout together
No matter what the weather or your view
Well you’d be hard pressed to know what they can do
Voices I’ve known don’t have power on their own
But when they shout together
No matter what the weather or your view
Well you’d be hard pressed to know what they can do
Raindrops and stones don’t have power on their own
But when they act together
No matter what the weather or your view
Well you’d be hard pressed to know what they can do
