I love songs where the lyrics are seemingly at odds with the music. A classic example is Sting's "They Dance Alone" - a hauntingly beautiful song about one of the worst dictators of the 20th century.
The Beatles did it a lot, especially John Lennon. "Help!" is an up tempo pop song about depression and "Nowhere Man" a sparklingly bright song about creative ennui.
My new track "Caught in the Glare" fits into this mould too. Lyrically, it inhabits the space between Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" and Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight". Musically it is modelled on the Beatles' style circa 1964, although I can now hear echoes of R.E.M., Elvis Costello and the Beach Boys.
The recording is just about complete although vocally the song is so complex that it will need a lot of tweaks before I get the final mix.
And then there's the video to do!
